Project Nile is proud to have launched the first Cub Scout group in Derby.
This will cater for children from the ages of 8 – 10 ½ years of age.
We aim to develop the youth of our community physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually in a fun and challenging way.
Through engaging in scouting experiences, young people develop confidence, make friends, interact positively with the wider society and gain access to networks that will assist them in their future lives. The Scout programme will be delivered with an Islamic ethos using the fundamental tenets of faith to achieve the goals of scouting.

The group is run by a team of volunteers, who are all DBS checked and trained to deliver the scouting programme and work with young people.
Weekly 90 mins sessions
Sessions will consist of working towards achieving badges in a range of activities, some indoors (arts and craft, first aid, map reading etc) and some outdoors (archery, wall climbing, sports etc.), alongside a range of other topics to aid the Scouts development as young people.
Sports outings and hikes
Regular hiking activities will ensure the development of physical fitness as well as encouraging discipline and teamwork. Exposure to nature will also play a fundamental role in developing an understanding of nature and all of creation.
Social and civic interest
Outdoor trips to places of social and civic interest (Police and fire stations, old peoples’ homes etc), with the aim of developing an awareness of British culture and its institutions and how they can play a part in serving the wider society.
Outdoor camps and survival weekends
The Cub Scouts will learn key outdoor skills such as outdoor cooking, tent pitching, and orienteering as well as the development of social skills, confidence, independence and an appreciation for the outdoors.
Why Scouting?
The values embedded in scouting mirror values that are taught to be a good person. Important principles such helping others and trustworthiness and character building are some of the principles and values that we will be working on as part of the scout group.
Thinking of volunteering?
Scouting couldn’t exist without volunteers that support and deliver it.
Anyone can volunteer and help in many ways. You might have first aid knowledge that you could teach the group, or you might be able to teach our young members a thing or two about DIY.
There’s no pressure to continue as a helper or leader afterwards, but hopefully we’ll be able to inspire you by showing how easy and rewarding it can be to become part of this exciting new Scout Group.
